Survivor working to assist other survivors..paying it forward...

I am so thrilled to see this group!!! I am a survivor of assault and domestic violence. I know beyond knowing that these experiences were given to me for a reason and I am turning them into gifts. I am working on numerous sites to auction my art photos and collection of imports (purchased from women in an effort to help feed the children and empower women around the world), creating an awareness of the need for peace,compassion,and helping hands to those in need. I am working on photographing all of the items I have purchased and created so that I can display them for sale. I am currently donating 20% of all proceeds to www.rapehelp.org, a local Las Vegas non-profit created by another survivor. We are currently working together on myspace (myspace.com/mamaserene) as well as Facebook. I am open and eager for any feedback as to how I can make this a successful adventure,with that success I will be able to reinvest profits with more imports to keep this adventure rolling...I pray the Butterfly Effect will be such that lives will be saved,wounds will be healed...and awareness of this world-wide problem will be impacted in a very positive manner. Please do not hesitate to let me know what you think of this project....especially if you have ideas or outlets that will facilitate the success of this endeavor.

What happened in the past has had it's effect on me...it does not define me. I do my best to take these experiences and use them to benefit others. It seems the best way to move forward!!! If we can look at life as a series of learning and growth experiences we would all be better off...

Question. Have the martial arts been fairly tested as an aid in this matter?

Are you asking me if I have studied martial arts????
I took an amazing class years ago..."Core Dynamics"...a hands on "body experience" self defense class...I questioned whether it would truly be effective..and yrs after the class someone put unwelcome hands on me...and before I could even think the body experience kicked in ....I knew in that moment that I remembered everything I had been taught and scared us both!!! Good that I can laugh about it now!!! At that moment it was NOT funny, this person was in danger of injury....glad I stopped myself and they learned to not go there with me....
I dislike and avoid conflict as much as possible...so little worth fighting over..
Peace and Harmony are so much more attractive to me...

SO many psychological/spiritual benefits...the one full weekend class I took gave me so much confidence in myself...I have not done any extended studies in martial arts...YET....what little experience I have not only brought confidence,it also gave me a sense of peace....and the knowledge that I have a right and the ability to take care of myself...

Hi Serene,

I just want to say you are a strong woman like the poem in the picture. You are truly a light and angel. After I read some of your replies, I counldn't hold my tears because I started to feel my pain that I've been trying to bury during my whole life. I have been wanting to learn how to earse those painful memories from childhood, or it seems to affect my life and relationships. It's wonderful for what you are doing and thanks for the encouragement you are giving to all the women who suffered.

Exactly! I want to respond further, but for now I just wanted to let you know our YOGA studios support empowerment - that begins within! Before an indivdual understands how precious they are ... it is easy to led into slavery & victimization. So much to say... thank you for stepping forward. WE are here to support, help, guide, share, explore this together and alone.
